What's included with website design services from Idea Rocket Labs?

We custom design every website so that it's unique and focuses on your goals and target audiences. We work with you to determine the best features, strategies, and goals to create a website that both you and your customers love.

"If you build it, they will come" no longer applies to websites which is why it's essential that you work with a website design company that has nearly three decades of experience to start from the ground up, creating a site that's going to perform at its best.

Search Engine Optimization That Gets More Traffic

We start with keyword research to help your website rank better right out of the gate, even before we start developing it. If your customers can't find you, your losing business.

More people are able to find your website when your website ranks higher on search engines such as Google or Bing. These "organic search results" are more trusted and get more clicks than other elements on a search engine results page (SERP), so you can see why it's critical that you rank high.

We help your website rank higher with our decades of SEO experience.

Custom Website Designs That Your Customers Remember

No website templates here. To get the maximum impact out of each customer's visit, we tailor each website design to communicate with your target audience to guide them to make a connection and increase engagement.

We will custom design your website to stand out from your competition and make your website memorable, even after a customer leaves your website.

Responsive Designs That Work On All Devices

We make your website look great no matter what device your customers use to visit it. Mobile users account for the largest percentage of users, so we use a "mobile-first" methodology to make sure your website looks and works great on phones, tablets, and desktop and laptop computers.

Content Management System (CMS)

We make your website easy to maintain by using the popular WordPress CMS. This provides a ton of flexibility, multiple users, improves site maintenance, manages content, and puts you in control of your website.

Website Design Terms You Should Know

  • Accessibility

In general, it is making a website accessible to people with disabilities such as being visually impaired using screen readers, hearing impaired visitors with no sound, color blind people, or other disabilities.

  • Back End

The back end of a website is the administrative area of the website that is not accessible to the public. For a CMS (content management system), this is where web pages are created, content is added, photo galleries are managed and user information is kept.

  • Back Link

Link building (also known as backlinks) is a process of acquiring links from other websites to your own. Advantages of building links include helping your website ranking higher in search engine results and allowing people to discover your website or business on other websites.

Backlinks are one of the factors that Google uses to help determine which sites rank higher on searches, which is very important for search engine optimization (SEO).

  • Bandwidth

Bandwidth in website hosting is the amount of data your website can transfer to your users in a given amount of time. In the same way, having more bandwidth means that more website data can be moved at one time. It is also known as monthly data transfer.

500GB of monthly bandwidth means that your account can transfer up to a maximum of 500GB of data with a given month.

If you have a webpage that is 6MB in size (include the text, javascript, images, videos, etc) and if you get exactly 100 visitors every day that load that 6MB - then you are consuming 600MB of bandwidth every day. If you assume a month is 30 days, that would be 18000MB in a month or right at 18GB of bandwidth used in that month.

  • Below the Fold

This is a term that was used in the newspaper industry to describe any content that was below the folded part of the newspaper, and thus, not instantly viewable.

In website design terms, below the fold means any content that isn't instantly viewable on screen when a page loads, thus requiring that the user scroll down to see that content.

  • Bounce Rate

Bounce rate is the percentage of people who visit a single page on your website and then leave. This can be an indicator of several things such as poorly targeted advertising, poor webpage quality, or poor website navigation.

  • Breadcrumbs

Breadcrumbs are a small sub-navigation bar that helps users know where they are in the website's page hierarchy. An example of breadcrumbs might look something like this:

    Home > Animals > Cats > Kittens

  • Browser

A web browser is a program that people use to access the internet and view websites. Examples of web browsers include Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari, Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer, or Brave.

There are also many variants of browsers on mobile devices such as cell phones and tablets.

  • Cache/Caching

Cached files are those that are saved or copied (downloaded) by a web browser so that the next time that user visits the site, the page loads faster.

You may from time-to-time need to "clear your cache" in order to download updated website files to your computer.

  • CSS - Cascading Style Sheets

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a document that website developers use for adding styles (e.g., fonts, colors, spacing) to websites and pages.

  • CMS - Content Management System

A CMS, short for content management system, is a software that allows users to build and manage a website without having to code it from scratch, or know how to code at all.

Examples of CMS's include WordPress, Joomla, Magento, Concrete5 Drupal, OpenCart, TYPO3, Prestashop, among others.

  • Domain or Domain Name

A domain name (or just ‘domain’) is the name of a website. A domain is what comes after the www. or after the @ symbol in an email address.

For example, our domain is www.idearocketlabs.com

  • E-Commerce

This is short for electronic commerce. E-commerce is simply buying and selling products online vs. in a physical store.

  • Fixed Width Layout

A fixed width layout is a website that has a predefined width that won't stretch any wider than the width that was defined, regardless of screen resolution or monitor size. E.g. 1100 pixels wide.

  • Front End

The front end of a website is the parts of the website that the public sees, and is the opposite of the back end where the website is managed.

  • Hit

A single hit is whenever a single file is accessed from the webserver to display a page. An example would be if a webpage has 10 images and the HTML file, that would count as 11 hits.

This is contrary to popular thinking that a hit is a person visiting the site. So in this case, a single person viewing that page created 11 hits.

Some marketers like to show hits as an example of performance because it makes it sound like you're getting more traffic than you really are.

  • HTML

HTML (which stands for hypertext markup language) is the language that was created to be able to create and display website pages. It is used in conjunction with other files to make a complete webpage including CSS, Javascript, images, and many other files that combine to make this page you're viewing now.

  • Landing Page

A landing page is any page that is the first page that a visitor sees when they come to your website. Landing pages can be created as part of a marketing campaign with the intent of driving people to that page from advertising.

  • Meta Data/Meta Tag

Metadata is data in a webpage that describes information within it. <meta> tags are used to specify things such as character set, page description, keywords, author of the document, and other settings. Metadata will not be displayed on the page and can also be useful for things such as SEO (search engine optimization).

  • Navigation

Navigation is the menu system on a website that allows users to intuitively find their way around the site and find the webpages, products and services they're looking for.

  • Open Source

Open-source software is software with source code that anyone can inspect, modify, and enhance.

  • Page View

A page view is a count of how many times a specific page on your website was viewed.

A permalink is the full URL for a post, page. It’s a permanent link, hence the name permalink.

  • Plug-In

A plug-in is an add-on that was developed to extend the functionality to a CMS (content management system).

  • Resolution

The image you see on your computer screen is made up of millions of pixels that create the image you see.

Screen resolution tells you how many pixels that your screen can display horizontally (width) and vertically (height). For example, a computer screen can be 1920 x 1080 pixels.

  • Template/Theme

Many CMS's come with pre-created templates or themes. These make it simple to make a nice-looking website without design experience.

At Idea Rocket Labs, we don't use pre-built templates or themes, we create them from scratch so that your custom marketing message comes through and we're not trying to shoehorn your message into a theme that doesn't work with your messaging or branding.

  • URL

Stands for universal resource locator. It's the full address of a website, for example, https://idearocketlabs.com

  • Usability

Usability refers to how easy and intuitive it is for a visitor to use your website and find what they're looking for. The more complicated a site is to use, the lower the usability would be.

  • Website/Webpage

A website refers to an entire website including all of it's pages and a web page refers to a single page within the website.

  • Web Server

A web server is a computer that is specifically created to host websites on the internet.

  • Web Standards

Standards are specifications recommended by the World Wide Web Consortium for standardizing website design. The main purpose of web standards is to make it easier for both designers and those who create web browsers to make sites that will appear consistent across platforms.
